Ouabache State Park, Wells County, Indiana (Grandma's 94th B-Day)
This past Sunday I went with my parents and grandma to Decatur and Bluffton, Indiana to celebrate her 94th B-Day. My grandma always wants to eat at the Back 40 Junction in Decatur. I snapped this pic (with my moms camera) of my mom and Grandma while we were there.
Ouabache State Park, is pronounced by most people around here as o-ba-chee. In reality it is pronounced (Wabash). Ouabache is the French spelling of an Indian word. To the left is a picture of the old 100 foot fire-tower that stands in the middle of the park. Did I climb it? You know it!
Here is a view from the top, you can see the lake that is in the park. "also, I found a geocache down in the woods in this shot, I wont tell you where though, gotta find it yourself ;)"
Here you can see the other half of the lake, as well as the boat rental area. (by the island on the left)
This is the road we came in on, there were a lot of bikes in the park, and I may have to return with mine as well. The trees have not recovered from the winter yet, but its getting greener on the ground!
This is looking towards the Buffalo area. Yes, there are buffalo here. I am not quite sure the story behind this, perhaps I should have read the signs.. if you click on the pic to make it bigger, you can see them hanging out under the tree on the right side of the grassy area.
After climbing back down the fire-tower (no grandma did not climb it lol) we headed over to see the buffalo, and also to grab another geocache.
This one was coming up to say hello.
These buffalo are not afraid of people at all, as my dad demonstrated here.
On the way out I managed to get this pic of a woodpecker as well. Over all it was a cool park that I had not been to since I was a kid. Also they now have a paved bike path through the park. Next time, I will bring my bike, and maybe a tent.
