Shipshewana Indiana, Mayfest 2010
Wow, what a cold and windy day! Despite the weather we headed up to northern Indiana, to the Mayfest festival in Shipshewana. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this area, it is really the heart of Amish country in Indiana. To the left is a picture of an Amish buggy as we were entering the town.
If anyone out there is looking for a new career, this just may be one worth looking into. This guy was taking these chunks of logs and taking a chainsaw at them until they resembled something interesting. Mostly bears, the larger ones were selling for $200 + I know he did 1 whole one in the time that we were there.. 2 hours or so.
Left to right (My fiance Helen, Dad, and Mom) as we walked around the town to the different shops. Notice the temperature sign in the background!? A whopping 47 degrees, it was 80 degrees a couple days ago!
A parking lot in the downtown area. The sign in the middle reads "Horse Drawn Vehicles Only".
A plaque telling of the early days of Shipshewana.
More buggy parking, a different parking lot than the other one, a block or so down the road, there must have been a couple of hundred buggies in this small town today.
A close up, wanted to give this guy his moment in the limelight!
Do you think they were having a conversation before I intruded?
Why just this morning I found myself asking "I wonder how one would go about backing up a buggy?" And POOF there is the answer!
Sometimes I take random pictures over a large area, just to see if anything jumps out at me later. This is an example of one of those shots. When I took the picture I didn't even notice this "buggy backing" going on, this is cropped from a much larger picture.

The family in front of the Blue Gate Restaurant, where we had lunch.
They offer short buggy rides through the town, this picture is of one such horse, and my mom.
And so ends our tour of Indiana Amish Country for today, I hope you liked the pictures.
